Our dance evolution...
The Bijou Project came together by happenstance in January
2005. What began as a teaching partnership and dance side-
project between performers from two of the most influential
Tribal styles of belly dance (FCBD ATS & Gypsy Caravan
Tribal Improv), quickly became more than a unique creative
outlet between two people. In short, the melding of
improvisational tribal dance styles blended with the artistic
vision shared by Kamini & Samara resulted in the formation of
a Tribal Fusion troupe known as the Bijou Project.
The name Bijou, the French word for jewel was chosen, and
Project was decided upon because the collaboration is a
continual creative work in progress. Since their inception, the
Bijou Project has traveled throughout the West Coast to
perform at venues such as Tribal Fest, Rakkasah, the Portland Rose Festival, Saqra's Showcase, the
Mediterranean Fantasy Festival, and the Tribal Quest Northwest Dancers Showcase, as well as performing at
local events such as the Bite of Bend and Bend Summer Festival.
As a Tribal Fusion troupe the Bijou Project culminates several decades of experience in various dance forms to
create a uniquely shared dance dialect. The end result is a combination of modern Tribal Fusion that is
captivating to watch and a pleasure to perform!
The Bijou Project incorporates a wide expanse of musical varieties as well as props such as baskets, swords,
candles, veils, and skirt work. We explore every plane of the dance floor through floor work, levels, and
ambidextrous staging. Utilizing various forms of moves, music, props, and presentation in our dance we strive to
deliver a performance that is at once dynamic, captivating, and grounding. Through the dance we heal each
other, express joy, awaken visions, foster strength, and become closer to the divine.
